Seascape Knit Trips: Karen Heitkamp and Amy Snell

We met as moms on the first day of kindergarten drop-off when our sons decided to become new best friends. In a fortuitous twist of fate, we soon became fast friends, too. Our friendship grew as we discovered a shared dedication to community volunteerism, where our complementary skillsets inevitably seemed to lead to joint leadership positions, and a passion for travel that led to adventures all over the world.

As the children grew up and left their respective nests, we spoke of blending our separate talents — Amy’s for knitting instruction and Karen’s for show and event planning— into a professional partnership that would allow us to bring something very special into fruition. In 2024 we decided it was time to embark upon our own unique West Coast-based knitting travel and retreat company: Seascape Knit Trips.

We’ve thought long and hard about the kinds of travel and knitting adventures we wanted to be part of and how we wanted them to feel. We’re dedicating ourselves to bringing you events that are lighthearted and fun, but also offer rock-solid instruction in knitting and art techniques. It’s our goal to bring you top instructors and compelling topics while visiting some of the world’s most awe-inspiring destinations with amazing and inspiring fellow travelers. We want to create a community that lasts much longer than a single trip, and memories that never fail to spark joy.
